My academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences and a master’s degree in Agricultural Productions and Agroecosystems Management from the University of Pisa. Throughout my studies, I explored the dominant agricultural production paradigm while developing a strong interest in alternative systems aligned with environmental and socio-economic sustainability.Â
During my master’s program, I deepened this perspective through my thesis work, conducted within the framework of the PRIN AGREF project. My research expanded from a production-focused approach to a broader value chain perspective, with particular attention to unfair trading practices between producers and retailers in the Italian fruit and vegetable sector. This experience allowed me to investigate power asymmetries within food systems, as well as issues of fairness, governance, and distribution of value along the chain.Â
I am currently a PhD student at the University of Pisa in the Department of Agricultural Sciences. My research continues to focus on food value chains within the context of the REFORM project, which aims to identify sustainable business models in the Flemish dairy sector. Within this project, I contribute by analyzing the post-farm-gate stages of the value chain, applying the True Cost Accounting framework to assess environmental and social externalities. The objective of this work is to generate evidence that can support decision-makers in the transition toward more sustainable and equitable food systems.Â
